Welcome to the Official Dropline Wiki

This site is meant to be a resource for everything related to Dropline Gnome. Developers, package maintainers and users.

Note to spammers: Don't bother.

Current Status

2.22: "In progress." Beyond that, don't post to the forums about it and don't ask in the IRC channel because there will be no point in it. There will not be any more detailed an answer than that for at least a week and the place to check will be here. Progress is going slowly, but it's going. People can see what's been built and pounded on so far at the GNOME 2.22 Package Database.

Beta Release: 2.20 Yes, at last we've got a beta installer for 2.20. We'll probably go "final release" on that in the next two weeks (so, before November is over, to be certain). At the moment, the only things missing are some of the more esoteric things we have to bang into shape specifically for Slackware (like fast-user-switching). For further details see this forum post.

Out of the gate just a bit late: 2.18.x Since 2.20 was released before we could finish polishing up 2.18, there's not much point in proceeding further from here. If you got the beta client and installed it on Slackware 12, you're a very cool person. Stay tuned because you should be able to upgrade from that to 2.20 once we get it working. In the meantime, you can pretty much consider 2.18.x to be finished/done/stable. Type "!downloadtest dropline-installer" in the IRC channel and the bot will tell you the URL for the installer that will get you the 2.18.x "beta".

Latest Dropline release: 2.16.2 The latest production version of the DLG desktop is 2.16.2. All packages have been rebuilt from scratch for Slackware 11.0.

Download Information To download the latest version of DLG you can always use the dropline-installer application from http://droplinegnome.org/?page_id=6. An ISO of DLG 2.16.1 is also available. Check the list of mirrors at: http://forums.droplinegnome.org/viewtopic.php?t=5309. Use of the installer application is the preferred method, as it will always download the latest versions of everything and save you the extra step of upgrading everything after installing from the ISO.

Bug Reports

There are currently two ways to submit bug reports and/or get help with Dropline. We have forums available, as well as an IRC channel.

Dropline Forums

To report bug reports related to Dropline GNOME for Slackware or Slamd64 you can use the (preferred) forums at http://forums.droplinegnome.org/

IRC channel on Freenode

You can also contact us on IRC at irc://irc.freenode.net/#dropline or irc://irc.freenode.net/#dropline64. This channel is relatively quiet rather frequently so if you have to ask a question, just ask it. It might take awhile for someone to notice it, so please wait at least 15 minutes before running off (or again, just go post on the forums).

Note

During times when we're building new releases, posting your bug report to the forum (and of course checking to see if someone's already posted a fix) is far preferable and more likely to get a response than pestering devs in the IRC channel (because they're probably already working on something else). When we're working on new stuff is not a good time for our attentions to be split.

Special Notes

Slackware-current

Please do not attempt to install Dropline GNOME if you are running Slackware-current. We can not and will not support that, and it's just going to be a big hassle. If you guys are even the least bit interested in stability, you will stick with the stable releases and leave -current to the people who can actually fix problems themselves.
